World Café Quartet performs an unusual body of music that resides at the intersection of jazz and chamber music. Specializing in "choro" from Rio, and original compositions, the group's unique instrumentation includes mandolin, guitar, acoustic bass, accordion, melodica, and percussion. Since its start in 1996, World Café Quartet has performed to enthusiastic audiences and critical acclaim in the United States, France, Italy, Spain, and Japan. Based on the family trio of Marilynn Mair, mandolin; Nate Davis, bass; and Brinsley Fair Davis, percussion; the group has performed at the Festival Internacional de Musica de Plectro (Spain), the Kobe International Music Festival (Japan), and the American Mandolin & Guitar Concert Series (USA). The Quartet's first CD, "Metro," was released in June 1998 with a concert for "WaterFire," Providence, Rhode Island's renown public art event. |
